Seder in Scarsdale! - Bnei Akiva of the US & Canada

By: Jacob Rivkin | Scarsdale

This past Sunday, Snif Scarsdale NY hosted its first ever Tu B’Shvat Seder! The event, attended by 1st-4th grade chanichim and parents from the Scarsdale community, included a full Tu B’Shvat Seder led by our Shlichot Chen and Shaked, a falafel and pitot dinner, and Tu B’Shvat peulot. In the past, our Snif had run Tu B’Shvat events annually, but never before a communal Seder— a minhag not often practiced in the United States. The Seder consisted of each of the Shivat Haminim and grape juice, and included special brachot and discussions about each of the Minim. The Seder was filled with Chanichim enjoying trying the Minim for the first time, participating in the Seder, and adding to the Ruach by singing along to Israeli Tu B’Shvat songs. After the Seder and dinner, the Chanichim participated in a Peulah simulating planting trees in Israel on Tu B’Shvat— by “planting” their own chia pets! They were able to create their own chia pet design, and take their plant home to look back on and think about Eretz Yisrael through Tu B’Shvat. Chag Tu B’Shvat Sameach!!
